If I understand the “due bills” correctly, all the idiots that sell their shares today, 29 September. Will end up have to pay back the .80 per shares to all the lucky buyers. Which their brokers will handle, as this dividend payout is now out the company’s hands
Once you get paid today as the pay day, and you sell today 29 September 2025. You’ll lose the dividend to the buyer, which is the “due bills” so the broker in the next several days “will” take that .80 per share back if you sell today and give it to the buyer
John Wilken - you’re statement about “you won’t receive the Dividend if you buy between the recorded date of 15 September and the payment date of 29 September” seems to contradict what the document states:
“Stockholders who sell their common stock during the Dividend Right Period will be selling their right to the special dividend, and such stockholders will not be entitled to receive the special dividend. Due bills obligate a seller of common stock to deliver the special dividend payable on such common stock to the buyer (i.e., a dividend right).”
- doesn’t this statement indicate that if you sell during Dividend right the period, your dividend goes to the buyer. So buyers that buy now until 29 September, can still receive the dividend. The only difference is that you haven’t been recorded on 15 September to receive, so it’s upon the broker’s responsibility to ensure you receive the dividend. Because you bought the shares prior to the “Ex-Dividend date of 30 September
Does anyone know if this is correct:
if you buy a stock with a special dividend with a due bill after the recorded date for before the ex-dividend date. do i still get the dividend?
AI Overview
No, you would not receive the special dividend directly, but a due bill would document your seller's obligation to deliver the dividend to you, and your broker would handle this automatically, ensuring you get the dividend even though you are not on the company's official books for that date. You would be the rightful recipient of the dividend because your purchase occurred before the ex-dividend date, and the due bill ensures this rightful owner receives the dividend.
Here's a breakdown of the process:
Purchase before the Ex-Dividend Date: You bought the stock before the ex-dividend date, which is the critical date for dividend eligibility. This means you are entitled to receive the dividend, even though you are not on the company's shareholder list for that specific dividend.
Due Bill is Generated: Since the seller also owned the stock before the ex-dividend date, they were initially entitled to the dividend. Because they sold the stock to you, the due bill is used to transfer the ownership of the dividend from the seller to you.
Brokerage handles the process: Due bills are typically handled automatically by your brokerage firm. Your broker will track this transaction to ensure the dividend is paid to you.
Dividend Payment: The due bill ensures that even though the seller no longer owns the stock, they still owe the dividend to you, the new owner. The brokerage system then facilitates the dividend payment to you on the official payment date
The special dividend record date of September 15, 2025 will be used as the date for establishing the due bill tracking of the Dividend Right to the holder of common stock.
- so you have to bought the stock before the end of market day of 15 September 2025 to receive the .80 dividend per share on 29 September 2025
Stockholders who sell their common stock during the Dividend Right Period (September 15, 2025 through September 29, 2025) will be selling their right to the special dividend, and such stockholders will not be entitled to receive the special dividend on September 29, 2025. Due bills obligate a seller of common stock to deliver the special dividend payable on such common stock to the buyer (the "Dividend Right").
