Aehr AI demand accelerates as chip complexity drives burn-in needs, hyperscale shipments ramp and fiscal 2027 guidance rises.

Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) shares surged in Tuesday premarket trading after the company reported stronger-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results and raised its fiscal 2027 sales outlook.

On Monday’s earnings call, management said increasingly complex, higher-power AI chips are pushing reliability screening earlier in the manufacturing process.

That shift is supporting demand for wafer-level burn-in.

Earnings Snapshot

Aehr reported adjusted earnings of 28 cents per share, beating the analyst consensus estimate of 11 cents.

Revenue reached $33.01 million, topping the $27.07 million estimate and rising 200% year over year and 75% sequentially.

Bookings totaled $46.7 million, producing a book-to-bill ratio of about 1.4.

Backlog stood at $100.9 million as of Sept. 25, while effective backlog, including bookings received after quarter-end, reached $109.3 million as of Nov. 1.

The company also raised its fiscal 2027 sales guidance to $150 million. Its prior guidance ranged from $130 million to $150 million.

AI Chip Complexity Is Moving Burn-In Upstream

CEO Gayn Erickson said demand is rising for both wafer-level and package-level burn-in as semiconductor complexity and power requirements increase.

“Demand continues to accelerate across both wafer-level and package-level burn-in, driven by increasing semiconductor complexity, power requirements, and deployment in mission-critical applications,” Erickson said.

He added that some devices may increasingly need to be screened before packaging. Early-life failures may not be detected effectively later in the process.

“There’s also a growing trend that some devices that customers are working on may require production burn-in screening at the wafer level, as infant mortality failures of certain devices may simply not be able to be screened effectively at the package level,” he said.

Hyperscale Ramp Provides the Near-Term Proof Point

Aehr said that demand is already showing up in production shipments.

“We are shipping and installing more than a dozen systems per month to support our lead hyperscale customer’s production ramp for its first AI processor using Sonoma,” Erickson said.

He also said the customer expects a second processor to ultimately reach higher production volumes than the first.

That ramp matters because it shows Aehr’s AI opportunity isn’t limited to qualification work.

At the same time, management said some of the company’s largest potential programs still need to move through production validation before reaching full-scale deployment.

“We believe this customer represents one of the largest potential burn-in system opportunities Aehr Test System has ever pursued,” Erickson said.

To support higher shipment volumes, CFO Chris Siu said Aehr has begun shipping Sonoma systems from an existing contract manufacturer in Southeast Asia while expanding its Fremont operations.

AEHR Stock Price Activity: Aehr Test Systems shares are trading higher by 16.38% at $59.90 during premarket trading on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
