Abbott reports positive trial results for its Amulet 360 LAA occluder and SonicForce coronary IVL system at a conference.
Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) reported positive clinical trial results for two investigational cardiovascular devices at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in San Diego, demonstrating high procedural success and low complication rates in patients with irregular heart rhythms and severely calcified coronary arteries.
Strong One-Year Performance For Amulet 360
Data from the pivotal VERITAS study on Monday showed that the investigational Amulet 360 Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Occluder achieved complete closure with zero-millimeter leak in 96.3% of patients evaluated by transesophageal echocardiography.
The next-generation device targets non-valvular atrial fibrillation—an irregular rhythm in the upper heart chambers—offering a therapeutic alternative for individuals who cannot tolerate long-term blood-thinning medication.
Abbott built the platform on existing occlusion technology, introducing a softer, more conformable lobe to accommodate diverse patient anatomies alongside an outer disc that provides a secondary sealing layer.
Through one full year of follow-up, more than 98% of treated individuals remained free from ischemic stroke, systemic embolism, and cardiovascular-related mortality.
Additionally, over 99% avoided pericardial fluid buildup requiring intervention, and 93.4% experienced no major bleeding events.
SonicForce Meets Primary Endpoints In Artery Study
In a related Sunday release, the global healthcare leader announced favorable 30-day outcomes from the TECTONIC Investigational Device Exemption study.
The trial evaluated the investigational SonicForce Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy System across 335 patients with severely calcified coronary artery disease.
The system utilizes acoustic pressure waves, akin to kidney stone treatments, to fracture hard calcium deposits in narrowed vessels. The study achieved its primary effectiveness benchmark with a 97% procedural success rate, while recording a low 30-day target lesion failure rate of 0.3%.
Key secondary metrics showed that post-lithotripsy stent placement reduced remaining vessel blockage to under 50% across all evaluated participants, with major adverse cardiovascular events limited to 0.3%.
Optical coherence tomography in a 106-patient sub-study confirmed calcium fractures and improved post-stent expansion.
ABT Price Action: Abbott Laboratories shares were up 2.55% at $108.91 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
