According to TradingMarkets, selling pressure has shifted from the technology sector to the financials sector. While several financial ETFs that were highly overbought, such as the ProShares Ultra Financials ETF (NYSE: UYG), slipped by more than 1% at the end of the week, ProShares Ultra Technology ETF (NYSE: ROM) climbed over 1%.
Across the world, the scenario for ETFs remained mixed, with some like iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 ETF (NYSE: FXI) continuing to face pressure while others rallied. On Monday, look out for:
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE: XLP) had been upgraded from 7 to 9 late in trading on Friday. Meanwhile, Vanguard REIT ETF (NYSE: VNQ), which had bounced back shortly on Thursday only to retreat the next day, was upgraded to 8 on the last trading day of the week ended January 8.
The Industrial Select Sector SPDRS ETF (NYSE: XLI) has closed last week in the overbought territory, above the 200-day moving average for five consecutive trading days.
The next most oversold ETF at the moment seems to be iShares Dow Jones US Telecommunications Index Fund ETF (NYSE: IYZ). IYZ had closed lower for a third consecutive trading session on Friday.
