Was the timing good for this member of Congress who sold shares of a semiconductor stock and bought shares in another one?

The trading activity of members of Congress continues to be closely followed by investors. A recent trade saw a congressman sell shares of one semiconductor-related stock for another one in the same sector. Here are the trades.

Congressman Swaps Chip Stocks

Rep. John McGuire (R-Va.) recently made several stock moves within the semiconductor sector, as shared by the Benzinga Government Trades page.

Here are the trades:

Sept. 24: Sold $1,000 to $15,000 in Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) shares

Sept. 24: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) shares

Sept. 25: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology shares

Oct. 1: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology shares

McGuire swapped his Broadcom stock for shares of Micron.

The timing on most of these trades could have been better for McGuire as Micron shares traded above $1,000 on the days of his purchase and now trade at $707.96 at the time of writing.

The good news is the Broadcom shares were sold before that stock also fell in recent weeks with the technology sector suffering from a post-midterm election sell-off.

McGuire won a close re-election race in the 2026 midterms with 50.2% of the vote. He will continue to have to disclose his stock trades, which means investors will find out if he decides to sell Micron stock in the future.

McGuire’s Trading History

Compared to other members of Congress who buy and sell stocks, McGuire is not as active.

The congressman has made 26 trades totaling around $208,000 since 2025, according to data from Quiver Quantitative.

Other recent trades in 2026 also centered on big technology, with McGuire buying shares of Nvidia, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and SpaceX.
