Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares are rebounding Wednesday from a slide that followed last week’s earnings as a broad hyperscaler rally lifts the stock. Here’s what you should know.

Alphabet Stock Rebounds as Communication Stocks Lead the Market

Alphabet shares are recovering Wednesday from the drop that came after last week’s results, aided by gains across the market. Its Oct. 28 report put AI spending under scrutiny, as earnings of $2.12 a share fell short of the $3.02 analysts expected. Even though Google Cloud revenue surged, retail investors fixated on the earnings shortfall.

The communication services group ranked first among sectors, as the XLC fund climbed 4.07% and Alphabet beat that pace. Discretionary shares placed second, with XLY up 4.00%, while the energy fund XLE was the weakest, down 4.30%.

Eight of the 11 sectors rose on Wednesday, contributing to broader market strength. Alphabet may also be riding a wider move among hyperscalers after the midterm elections passed and political uncertainty eased.

Google Expands AlloyDB Database Tools

Google Cloud has also widened what its AlloyDB database can reach. In a preview, developers can bring Apache Iceberg tables from cloud storage into AlloyDB and combine them with live records through a single SQL command. Two other features, AlloyDB sync and Lakehouse federation, are now generally available, and Google says the three let apps and AI agents draw on current and past data without custom pipelines.

Google’s own tests used a 1-terabyte dataset, where aggregation queries ran up to 7 times faster than on a similar Amazon service built for PostgreSQL. Google also pointed to Etsy, which trimmed pipeline query times by 60%.

Google Malaysia Investment and Buyouts

Google plans to put $15 billion into Malaysia across 2027 and 2028, Reuters reported. The investment targets worker training, water security, clean energy and new data center campuses, and Google intends to train 800,000 people there over five years.

Reuters also reported that Google has extended voluntary exit offers since June to staff in five more countries as it works to contain costs. Heavy AI spending has rattled investors and weighed on Alphabet’s stock in recent months.

GOOG Shares Are Rising

GOOG Price Action: Alphabet shares were up 4.43% at $290.60 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro.
