Super Micro Computer shares are rising Tuesday ahead of earnings after SambaNova announced an AI systems collaboration with the company.
Super Micro Computer Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI) shares are moving higher Tuesday, following SambaNova’s announcement of a strategic collaboration with the server maker to build and sell AI inference systems combining SambaNova’s SN50 chips with Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) GPUs. Investors also may be positioning ahead of Super Micro’s earnings report, due after the close.
- Super Micro shares are powering higher. Why are SMCI shares rallying?
SambaNova’s SN50 Chips Will Power Supermicro’s New Inference Racks
Super Micro will work with SambaNova to develop SN50 inference racks that operate alongside Nvidia GPUs as part of its Data Center Building Block Solutions portfolio. The collaboration initially plans for 10,000 SN50 RDU chips, SambaNova’s reconfigurable dataflow units, to build and sell AI disaggregated inference systems that include both RDUs and GPUs. The systems pair Nvidia GPUs, which read the prompt, with SambaNova chips built to write the response quickly.
Supermicro will integrate, test, deliver and support the systems, including on-site service, and SambaNova engineers will help tune models on the SN50 and support deployments. The companies will start with neoclouds and sovereign clouds, then expand to enterprises that run AI in their own data centers.
"Our collaboration with SambaNova expands our broad DCBBS portfolio by enabling heterogeneous architectures that integrate GPU computing with specialized inference acceleration," said Charles Liang, Super Micro’s president and CEO.
Tech Stocks Are Also Trying to Rebound After a Selloff
The move could also reflect a rotation back into tech after a rough stretch for the group. The Nasdaq 100 closed Monday more than 10% below its record high, a technical correction, according to Bloomberg and Reuters, and the Nasdaq fell 1.07% on the day. Nasdaq 100 futures were up about 0.2% to 0.4% this morning. Supermicro fell 4.3% Friday and about 5% Monday as AI server stocks including Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise sold off, according to 24/7 Wall St.
