Amazon Stock Rises After a Week of Declines
Amazon shares are trading higher Monday after sliding last week. They fell Thursday after the company reported third-quarter results that landed below Wall Street estimates for both revenue and earnings.
Amazon took in $201.94 billion, compared with the $202.31 billion analysts projected. Earnings came to $1.89 a share, against a $1.97 forecast. Overall sales grew 12% from a year ago. North America climbed 6%, to $112.9 billion, and International gained 5%, to $43.1 billion.
Despite Amazon’s earnings and revenue miss, Amazon Web Services revenue reached $46 billion, a 39% increase and the quickest growth rate in nearly five years. CEO Andy Jassy expects AWS growth above 40% in both 2027 and 2028.
Spending is rising as well. Over the past 12 months, Amazon burned through $42.4 billion of free cash flow. It spent $94.8 billion more on property and equipment than the year before. Operating cash flow rose 29%, to $168.3 billion.
Amazon Launches a $25 Thanksgiving Meal
Amazon also unveiled a $25 holiday dinner package through Amazon Grocery. It holds an 8-pound turkey plus the fixings for typical side dishes and a dessert. Carts totaling $25 or above get same-day delivery at no charge in over 2,300 U.S. towns and cities. The deal lasts until Nov. 26, or until stock runs out.
The turkey is a Butterball. Name brands fill out the sides, among them Ocean Spray cranberry sauce, McCormick gravy mix, Kraft macaroni and cheese, Stove Top stuffing, Campbell’s mushroom soup, French’s fried onions and Carnation evaporated milk. Amazon Grocery’s own label covers the potatoes, corn, carrots, pie crusts, crescent rolls, green beans and pumpkin puree.
Jason Buechel, who oversees Amazon’s worldwide grocery stores and leads Whole Foods Market, said shoppers can get the whole meal “all in one cart, delivered to their door within hours.”
Turkey prices run lower all month. Frozen birds cost as little as 79 cents a pound through Nov. 26, and fresh turkey sells for 99 cents a pound from Nov. 14 to Nov. 26. Thanksgiving staples sell for under $4 through Nov. 26.
