$QS What are you talking about? Take off the tinfoil hat and return to reality.

$AMBL I agree with Daniel Sperry.

$ABML As I read this DOE funding application, the deadline is May 31, 2022 for the Concept Paper Submission and July 19, 2022 for final application submission, $ looks like April 2023. The intent of the funding reads like an ABML statement of operations, so I would expect AMBL to get their fair chunk. The link is to the current "Teaming Partner List." Several R&D and academic institutions, but also several companies unknown to me, but with stated goals similar to ABML - ABML is not currently on the list, but I don't know the importance of that. Redwood Materials also is absent.

We are in the right place at the right time, but the competition is there too.

$QS How much of a drag will this Lifshitz lawsuit “investigation “ be a drag? Just another short attack, but really hit us today.

$QS Justin Meier, what are your Big 3?
Mine are AMBL, DCFC, and AMBL (of course). -
$QS Long term holder here. Very encouraging today, BUT, still low volume. We need a solid move up on above average volume.

$QS Any comments on Na-ion batteries (CATL, of course)?
Long QS here as I don’t feel easy with China based shares/technology. -
$QS Does anyone have any comment/insight on Blue Solutions (partnered with Mercedes) solid state battery tech vs QS?
Won the energy storage award at the Munich E Europe. States that it has “the only commercialized solid-state lithium battery,” a cobalt free lithium metal polymer.
Long term $QS holder here. -
$QS I am posting this interesting insight from the newsletter “The Electric.” I am long:
We revealed a fracture in the battery industry over QuantumScape, the Volkswagen-backed solid state lithium metal company, after its repeated claims of milestone breakthroughs based on unscaled cells the size of a postage stamp. The tension had been building for some 17 months, ever since QuantumScape emerged from stealth and became the perceived front-runner in the race to commercialize a lithium metal battery. But last month, a rival company called foul over QuantumScape’s latest claim—that its battery could charge in just 15 minutes 400 consecutive times. No one I spoke with disputed the claim as far as it went, but noted that—as had been the case for three prior such announcements—QuantumScape’s test cell was only 0.2Ah in size. Its decision to stick with such cells to showcase its splashiest results invited doubts about claims it made for its future batteries.
In January, The Electric subscribers were also able to join a private Live Chat with Thomas Schmall, head of technology at VW and a member of the company’s board of management. All the major automakers face the threat of marginalization and even bankruptcy in the mobile transformation, but VW has committed to the most spending—$100 billion over the next few years. In an especially memorable part of the chat, Schmall predicted that EV batteries would move to solid state, and that when that happens it will be “winner-take-all.” Whose technology is VW relying on? That of QuantumScape, in which VW is the largest independent shareholder.

Auto and battery makers are heading into scrap hell—and that’s the real reason, and not end-of-battery-life concerns, as companies are claiming, that they are piling into recycling companies. That is, when they make their first year or two of batteries, they are likely to lose 30% and more of their material to defects, rejects and cuttings, until they figure out what they are doing and get their yield rates up. One fact stood out in this column: In the third quarter of 2017, months after Panasonic flipped on the switch at Tesla’s first gigafactory, 84% of its anodes, cathodes and so on ended up on the factory floor. Look for scrap hell in most or all the hundreds of gigafactories going up in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Tom asks about a 5-10 year investment horizon for his daughter: I say “perfect.”
QS is a high risk, long term investment. If they can deliver, this will be a very valuable holding. I am long for the long term - I am not a trader. Two to three years will tell the tale.
I bought MSFT in the early 80s and sold a few years later for a nice profit. Big mistake. -
Redwood Materials is not a public company, yet. It will be a significant player/competitor to ABML. I think that the market will be so huge as to support several major players. I am long ABML because it is the best public option, but also because the team is first rate.
Anyone have any thoughts on Redwood Materials?

$ABML long holder here. Any thoughts on potential competition from Redwood Materials (fellow Tesla alum CEO)?

Tesla co-founder J.B. Straubel wants to build his startup Redwood Materials into the world’s top battery recycling company and one of the largest battery materials companies, he said at a technology conference Wednesday.
